Curriculum
36–39 semester credit hours, completed 100% online — 24 credit hours of core coursework plus 12 to 15 in your chosen track. The range reflects the track you choose; the CNS track carries its own degree plan.
Coursework is evidence-informed and grounded in current nutrition science — nutrient metabolism, the gut microbiome, nutrigenetics — alongside the practical skills to translate that science for real clients: assessing nutritional status and deficiencies, designing evidence-based strategies, and communicating recommendations clearly.
| Program | Credit Hours | Format | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| MS in Nutrition & Human Performance | 36–39 | Online | 2 years |
- Integrative Nutrition & Practice — whole-person, evidence-informed nutrition expertise for clients and patients across clinical and community settings.
- Nutritional Wellness — nutrition science applied to helping people manage chronic conditions and improve quality of life through sustainable change.
- Sports Fitness — nutrition and exercise science applied to optimizing athletic performance and physical wellbeing.
- Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) — coursework and supervised-practice hours that count toward CNS eligibility.
This track prepares you to pursue CNS eligibility. It does not confer the certification. The CNS credential requires roughly 1,000 supervised practice hours beyond NUTR680 Internship, which covers 120 of them.
To check whether you can practice as a CNS in your state, visit the American Nutrition Association at theana.org.
For more information, email Program Director Dr. Jamie Daugherty at Jamie.Daugherty@logan.edu.
MS-NHP graduates are well prepared to sit for independent certification exams, including the Certified Clinical Nutritionist (CCN) and Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN) exams. The CCN exam requires additional undergraduate coursework before you're eligible to sit for it.
Relevant graduate coursework may transfer if it's under 10 years old at application, earned a B or better, and reviewed by a Program Director for equivalency. At least 30% of the program must be completed at Logan.
Licensure & Boards
The legal scope of practice — and the protected use of the title "Nutritionist" — varies significantly by state.
Review the regulations where you intend to practice before you enroll.. Some states require supervised hours or a national exam beyond your degree before you can use certain titles or provide certain services.
Full state-by-state detail is in Logan's professional licensure disclosure. Talk to your Admissions Advisor about how the MS-NHP fits the rules where you plan to practice.
Board results and graduation rates for every Logan program are published at Measures of Success.
Career Outlook
Some fields of work include clinical care, sports performance, public health and corporate wellness — fields MS-NHP graduates can find themselves in.
For a working chiropractor, medical professional, fitness coach or educator, this degree adds a credential and a body of science directly to the practice you already have.
Logan's online MS-NHP has been recognized by BestColleges.com and by Intelligent.com among the best online nutrition programs in the country.
