Paralympic Operations at Logan University has now transitioned to USA Adapted Sports & Programs, under the direction of Executive Director Kelley Humphries-Mascoll, DC, MS, EMT-P, CSCS, ICSC, CCSP.
The name reflects a refocused effort and expanded reach to include all adaptive athletes. It also provides new opportunities for Logan faculty, staff and students to become involved.
USA Adapted Sports & Programs believes people with disabilities should have equal access to anything — as the general population has — through awareness, well-trained caregivers and trainers, and adapted opportunities for fitness.
“Our mission is to be the gold standard for any organization – big or small – that wants to create active, accessible opportunities for individuals with disabilities,” said Dr. Humphries. “We see ourselves as the vehicle to provide these pathways that allow this population to lead to active, healthy lifestyles.”
USA Adapted Sports & Programs plans to achieve this by:
- Cultivating a more inclusive environment for the world of sports
- Providing opportunities for accessible activities through regional hubs (or training sites) throughout the country
- Educating individuals on how to train and interact with the disabled community, starting with Logan’s Postgraduate Department for continuing education credits, seminars and workshops
“Logan University continues to live up to its mission as a leader in health and wellness through diverse and engaging opportunities,” said Dr. Humphries. “USA Adapted Sports & Programs is just another example of Logan’s leadership through advocacy and support of the adapted activity movement.”
Dr. Humphries recently welcomed Event and Education Coordinator Mackenzie Pankey to the team to support internal and external competitions, certification programs and program policies. MacKenzie joins Coach Mary Hodge, senior manager of sport performance and education, who secures regional hubs and recruits and trains athletes, coaches and support staff across the U.S.
