Transfer Student Finds Home at Logan

Trimester 2 student Megan Mattox transferred to Logan University in January 2020. After just 10 weeks in the DC program, campus closed and all instruction moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The attitude and culture here at Logan is focused not on competing with one another, but on completing the program together,” said Megan. “This reinforces learning among my cohort of fellow students, and having even just 10 weeks of that family atmosphere and sense of community on campus was necessary to continue learning while living through a pandemic.”

Originally from Michigan, Megan spent the last several years as a stay-at-home mom with her five children, including four foster children whom she and her wife adopted. As her youngest children—twins—were nearing preschool age, Megan decided it was time to pursue a career she was passionate about and would allow her to set her own schedule. Chiropractic was the perfect fit.

“Chiropractic is a distinctly unique profession due to the fact that everyone walks around with the tools they need to do it—their hands,” said Megan. “With the training Logan provides and the mentorship of faculty and staff, you can go from simply having these tools to actually using them to help alleviate pain for others.”

After a year in a DC program at another university, Megan realized the program wasn’t a good fit for her and began looking at other options. Having earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and ceramics in 2008, Megan enrolled in Logan’s online undergraduate program to fill in gaps in coursework prior to returning to a chiropractic program. Impressed with Logan’s online courses and ready to continue her chiropractic education, Megan visited Logan’s campus and immediately felt welcomed. She moved to St. Louis and began coursework at Logan in January, and her wife and children joined her in April.

As a transfer and nontraditional student, Megan said she has received phenomenal support from Logan’s faculty, staff, administrators and fellow students—whether she needs help adjusting her studying skills, utilizing student resources or understanding course material.

Megan has recently been selected as a Student Ambassador, a role in which she will speak with prospective students about Logan and chiropractic, help new students transition to life at Logan, and, once back on campus, lead campus tours. After graduating, her goal is to work in pediatric chiropractic, specifically with kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder or who have behavioral challenges.
