Presidential Transition

The Logan University Board of Trustees has announced the selection of Garrett Thompson, DC, PhD, as the University’s eighth President.

The announcement of the new president culminates a nationwide search that began in February 2024 after current President Clay McDonald, DC, MBA, JD, announced his retirement.

“Logan University is gaining a devoted educator who will bring a deep understanding of higher education as well as a mission-driven commitment to our institution,” said Dr. McDonald. “I am excited to welcome Dr. Thompson to Logan and look forward to supporting him in all ways possible as he begins this new chapter of his career.”

Dr. Thompson currently serves as Vice President for Academic Affairs and chief academic officer at Sonoran University of Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona. He will begin his term with Logan on March 1, 2025.

“Since February, the Presidential Search Committee received more than 70 applications for President, which I believe is a testament to the quality and reputation of this institution,” said Board Chair Donald S. Altman, DDS, DHSc, EdD. “We’re confident Dr. Thompson is the right person to further Logan’s mission with the integrity, leadership and vision that Dr. McDonald has provided over the past 12 years. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Thompson to campus.”

I look forward to building on this strong foundation and working collaboratively with the university’s talented faculty, staff, students and alumni to advance our shared vision of enhancing human health and wellness. Together, we will continue to drive innovation, expand our reach and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students and the communities we serve.”

Search Process

Six members of the Logan Board of Trustees led the Presidential search process. After narrowing the list to the top three, candidates were brought to campus for in-person presentations and interviews with faculty, staff, and students as well as with Cabinet members and the full Board of Trustees. The Board welcomed input from those who attended the presentations through a survey format.

The Presidential Inauguration for Dr. Thompson will take place in early May 2025 at the William D. Purser, DC Center on Logan’s campus.
