Doctor of Chiropractic Students Attend Career Roadshow in Milwaukee

Five students from Logan University’s Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program attended a Career Roadshow in Milwaukee on March 9 and 10. Hosted by Logan Career Services, the event was designed to help student doctors explore a variety of career options and build their network of professional contacts.

On March 9, the participating students—along with Jason Goodman, DC (’98), PhD, director of external clinical rotations and assistant professor at Logan—delivered a presentation to a group of undergraduate students from several universities throughout Wisconsin interested in applying to chiropractic school. They shared information and answered questions about their experience in Logan’s DC program.

The students spent the second day of the Career Roadshow shadowing the licensed DCs and physical therapists at Chiropractic Company, which is one of the largest providers of chiropractic care in Milwaukee with more than 20 offices throughout Wisconsin.

“Each of us was assigned to one of Chiropractic Company’s offices, and we spent the entire day with the doctors and staff members,” said Charlai Williams, a trimester 8 DC student who participated in the Career Roadshow. “They were happy to answer any questions we had, and we went over case studies from diagnostic imaging together. I learned there are many opportunities working with Chiropractic Company. If you come in as an associate doctor, you will have a mentor who will walk you through the process of how they perform tasks in the office.”

Logan funded hotel rooms and meals for the participating students and offered professional development grants to help offset travel expenses. For students like Charlai and trimester 8 DC student Reed Bogrand, attending the Career Roadshow was a no-brainer.

“Going to a Career Roadshow can help open doors to different places you may not have considered practicing,” Reed said. “You can get a feel for what life is like in a different city like Milwaukee and how a practice like Chiropractic Company operates there. A lot of people assume they will go back to their hometowns after graduation, but Career Roadshows give you the chance to try something new.”

After shadowing at Chiropractic Company in January 2023 and during the Career Roadshow, Reed was offered a preceptorship at one of the organization’s Milwaukee offices. He will be completing his Preceptorship Program there this summer.

“I like how Chiropractic Company allows its DCs do what they do best: adjust,” Reed said. “Everyone in the office has their own roles and responsibilities, so DCs don’t have to worry about things like billing and insurance. There also isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. You can treat your patients using the chiropractic modalities you think are most appropriate.”
