Being a student or an educator for most of his life, Marcus De Geer, DC (’01), MD is passionate about learning and teaching. “I’ve always been curious, which is an important aspect of learning,” Dr. De Geer said. “I want to instill a passion for perpetual learning within my students.” A professor in Logan’s Doctor of Chiropractic program, Dr. De Geer said that surprisingly, he aspired to be a classical musician before deciding to become a medical doctor. Pre-Health Club Supports Students Around the Globe as they Pursue Diverse Health Careers

Deciding to pursue a terminal degree can cause stress, anxiety and loneliness. A few Logan students experienced these emotions when applying for medical school. They founded the Pre-Health Club after realizing they could benefit from leaning on one another during this strenuous process. Logan’s first fully virtual organization, the Pre-Health Club was founded in the summer of 2021 to assist students interested in furthering their education after graduating. Logan University Partners with Ivy Tech Community College

Logan University has partnered with Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana on an articulation agreement that establishes a 2+2 dual-degree between the two institutions. The program makes it possible for qualified students to earn both an Associate of Science degree in Biology from Ivy Tech and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Logan’s College of Health Sciences seamlessly in four years. More than 20 percent of adults in the United States suffer from chronic pain. Further, research has shown that chronic pain disproportionally affects low-income adults, women and adults over 65 years old. As chronic pain may affect one’s biological, psychological, social and economic state of being, its impact is widespread throughout entire communities. The Saint Louis Regional Health Commission (RHC) is fighting back against this public health epidemic, and Logan clinicians have aided their efforts. “Addressing Chronic Pain: Integrating Physical Function Services into Community Health Centers” provides a blueprint for community health centers to implement physical function services. A Business Journal analysis of more than 1,500 primarily campus-based, four-year colleges and universities with at least 1,000 students found that while average total enrollment fell 5% between fall 2016 and 2020, roughly one-third of the schools reported enrollment growth during that period—including Logan University. Dr. Mary Unger-Boyd Named SORSI International Chiropractor of the Year

Logan Professor Mary Unger-Boyd, DC (’97), DICS, CACCP was named the 2021 International Chiropractor of the Year by the International Craniopathic Society and the Sacro Occipital Research Society International (SORSI). The award is given once a year for an individual’s service and contributions to SORSI and the International Chiropractic Profession. Dr. Unger-Boyd was presented with the award by 2020 recipient Dr. Jerry Hochman of Life University during the SORSI Homecoming in Sept. 29 – Oct. 2 in Denver where Dr. Unger-Boyd lectured on SOT® Methods for Pregnancy and Pediatrics for SORSI. “I am so honored to receive this award and to …
