DHPE Student Spotlight: Tim Victorella

Tim Victorella lives in upstate New York near the Finger Lakes. He has been working in the mental health field for many years, specifically in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and professional education. Tim holds a master’s degree in social work and is currently three trimesters from graduation from Logan’s Doctorate of Health Professions Education (DHPE) program.

Tim’s career extends back to his early years in emergency medicine in the community. He has been in the mental health field working clinically in emergency departments, community crisis teams, state psychiatric hospitals, and crisis stabilization units. Currently, Tim works for a national crisis line with the training department as an educator. He enjoys the opportunity to train new and current employees to ensure world class service is being offered for people who reach out when experiencing mental health crises.

A doctorate degree is always something Tim has wanted to obtain. The DHPE program at Logan University was a great fit, offering flexibility in completing courses and presenting areas of study that can assist with growing skills and leadership as an educator in health care. Tim will take this education to assist the mental health professional, working to help students and professionals build long-lasting skills and helping lower stigma and trauma associated with mental health treatment.

Advice that Tim would give to new and future students of the DHPE program is to give yourself time to have good self-care, work to master APA style writing, and remember to enjoy your time in the program. Classes can be difficult but enjoying the educational journey is key.

When not at work or writing papers, Tim enjoys time with his amazing family that always drives him to do and be better. Tim’s family includes his partner Michelle, daughter Emerson, and a daughter on the way in May 2022. Tim enjoys hiking with his dog, surfing, and being out in nature.
