Josh Hutchison, PhD
Writing Center Director
Dr. Josh Hutchison joined Logan University in August 2017 and serves as the Writing Center Director. The Logan Writing Center’s primary goal is to aid all members of the Logan University community with research, writing, and critical thinking across the curriculum. To do so, Dr. Hutchison works closely with faculty, staff, and students to identify their needs and develop effective strategies to improve student outcomes. He also trains and oversees the Writing Center Coordinator and Writing Center Consultants. Additionally, he manages the scheduling system, plagiarism/AI detector, and the Writing Center Canvas resources. With 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience, Dr. Hutchison strives to encourage and embody a love of learning, a dedication to justice, and a genuine respect for others in his work.
Before his current position at Logan, Dr. Hutchison worked at Saint Louis University, where his roles included writing center consulting, administrative duties, faculty development, and teaching writing and literature. He has also taught courses in composition and literature at several of St. Louis Community College’s campuses, as well as at Crossroads College Preparatory School. With over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience, Dr. Hutchison is committed to fostering a love of learning, a dedication to justice, and a genuine respect for others in his work. He is proud to have helped students as young as 7th grade and as old as their 70s, from all walks of life, meet their educational goals.
Dr. Hutchison earned his Doctorate in Philosophy and Master of Arts in English from Saint Louis University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Missouri. In addition to writing and reading, Dr. Hutchison enjoys both playing and listening to music, attending sporting events with his two sons, cooking, and, more recently, artificial intelligence and educational technology.
