Anthony Miller, DC (’99) is a board-certified chiropractic physician and sports medicine specialist who has dedicated nearly 25 years to providing comprehensive chiropractic care for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions.
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Dr. Miller played collegiate soccer and baseball before earning his bachelor’s degree in human biology and Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree from Logan University. Currently, Dr. Miller teaches various courses to Logan’s DC students, including biomechanics, spinal and extremity assessments, and musculoskeletal management.
“My goal is to teach students how to manage complex situations and cases in a multidisciplinary way,” Dr. Miller said. “Students usually aren’t sure how to do things like ordering diagnostic imaging or referring patients to other specialists. So, I try to help prepare them for those real-world situations.”
In addition to teaching at Logan, Dr. Miller is also the head team chiropractor for the St. Louis Ambush indoor soccer league.
“I’ve been working alongside the team medical staff as the head chiropractor for four seasons now,” Dr. Miller said. “We work collaboratively to make sure the athletes receive the best care possible.”
Dr. Miller said the Ambush multidisciplinary medical staff consists of a variety of healthcare professionals, including orthopedists, athletic trainers and physical therapists. While there may be times when he is called to assist in other areas of care, he primarily focuses on evaluating the athletes’ spine and extremities.
“I’ve worked with sports teams at all different levels and learned that different athletes require different chiropractic skills.” Dr. Miller adds, “For example, a high school might not have an athletic trainer, chiropractor and physical therapist on their staff. In that case, we may need to assist with other tasks within our skillset beyond providing adjustments. But for other athletic teams like Ambush that have a full medical staff, I focus on chiropractic care.”
At the start of the 2024-2025 season, Logan’s DC student interns that participate in the University’s Sports and Rehabilitation Clinic rotation began working with Ambush to provide additional chiropractic care. Dr. Miller, who has been overseeing the collaboration, says it has been a great experience.
“This opportunity really helps students gain clinical experience with athletes, as well as experience working in a collaborative environment with other medical professionals,” Dr. Miller said.
For students interested in careers in sports, Dr. Miller offers advice: focus on your skills and perfect them.
“It’s so important for DC students to not only work extremely hard at evaluation, management and adjusting, but to also realize what is expected of them in the real world, ” Dr. Miller explained. “As chiropractors, we need to take advantage of the niche skills and training we have. It’s great to expand your skill set and knowledge into rehabilitation exercises, but it is vital to master neuromusculoskeletal management and adjustment techniques.”
