The career path of Alexjandro Daviano, DN, DO, DrPH, MSDS, MPH is a testament to his persistence and willingness to embrace change. Starting his academic journey in civil engineering, Dr. Daviano quickly realized that it wasn’t the right fit for him.
Having already earned EMT and paramedic certifications, he decided to pivot toward healthcare, a field he had only dabbled in. Working as a paramedic with a fire department in Washington, D.C., spurred his interest.
“I decided to jump in and gain more experience, so I joined the United States Air Force,” he said. “During this time, I worked to gain as much experience as possible, serving in command and control, using skills as a medic, and training with various military teams.”
Dr. Daviano went on to earn bachelor’s degrees in human services and health, and a strong interest in biology and research began to take root. A deployment to Afghanistan was a pivotal experience, exposing him to the challenges of patient care in a combat environment. This sparked his passion for research and desire to influence medical guidelines and protocols. Dr. Daviano decided to take on the challenge of furthering his education, enrolling at the University of New England for a Master of Public Health degree with a focus on global health and biostatistics.
Completing his master’s degree during his military service, Dr. Daviano took on roles that blended public health and exercise with his clinical background. He worked on projects with Public Health Authorities (PHA), including National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) and participated in humanitarian missions, including efforts in Haiti where he tackled infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis C. His passion for investigation and diagnostics deepened, fueling his desire to contribute to the field of medical research.
After leaving the military, Dr. Daviano stayed in Texas, where he began work on doctoral studies in clinical epidemiology at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, specializing in injury epidemiology, trauma care and biostatistics. His doctoral work allowed him to combine his clinical and data analysis interests.
He expanded his multidisciplinary expertise by continuing his education, earning a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from National University of Medical Sciences, a Doctor of Naprapathic Medicine degree from Southwest University of Naprapathic Medicine (SUNM), and a master’s degree in data science from Regis University.
His diverse educational background enables him to offer holistic, patient-centered care focused on minimizing invasive surgeries and reducing dependence on pharmaceuticals. Recently, Dr. Daviano completed an emersion fellowship at SUNM, specializing in functional neurology and connective tissue disorders, which he integrates into his clinical practice. He is licensed in the state of New Mexico, working as a research head and clinical instructor for SUNM and treating patients in partnership with clinics throughout the state.
Dr. Daviano teaches courses in Logan University’s Master of Health Informatics (MS-HI) program, hoping to inspire and educate future healthcare professionals.
“This program is great for anyone looking to use data analysis in healthcare and wanting to learn how to influence better outcomes,” he said. “The online format of the program is great for working professionals, and the variety of backgrounds of the faculty really allows students to gain perspective from many different industries.”
Dr. Daviano believes that the skills students acquire in these courses extend beyond healthcare, opening doors to careers in finance, data science and various other industries.
“There is no limit to what this degree can do—there are so many applications—making it really worthwhile for students,” he said.
