DC Student Competes in IBTF World Baton Twirling Competition

From back pain to baton twirling, Miranda Proctor, trimester 2 Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) student, keeps herself busy. Miranda is competing in the IBTF World Baton Twirling Competition in England August 4-13.

“It’s been a bit of a hectic schedule,” laughed Miranda. “In past years, I’d spend all day in the gym practicing. But with classes, homework and studying, I have had to time manage a lot differently.”

This will be Miranda’s fourth time attending Worlds for baton twirling. She will be competing in three events: Elite 2 Baton, an event with two batons, Elite 3 Baton, an event with three batons, and Elite Duet, a partner event.

“Worlds is unlike any other national competition,” explained Miranda. “All the people you are normally competing against are now your teammates. Everyone is there to support each other; I can’t even describe the feeling.”

Having baton twirled nearly her whole life, Miranda is no stranger to the questions that come with her sport.

“I was given my first baton when I was two days old, so I have basically always been twirling,” said Miranda. “I think some of my professors and classmates are confused about what it is I’m doing, but they’ve been nothing but supportive through it all.”

Miranda worked in advance with her professors at Logan to ensure she had all the material needed while in England for the competition.

“The professors are amazing and have been super understanding about my desire to compete,” said Miranda. “I received a lot of encouragement and support on my last day before Worlds.”

While still unsure of what direction she will take following graduation, Miranda knows she chose the right school and path.

“I have loved every minute at Logan so far,” said Miranda. “It is everything I could have dreamed of. I am excited to be part of the chiropractic profession.”
